Since its been solved, I'll tell you.

Letters can be turned into hexadecimal characters.
Hexadecimal characters can be represented as colours.

The goal was to turn the hexadecimal colours back into their corresponding letters. You can find many charts that can help you translate hexadecimal back into characters.

It was okay if I used GIMP, right?
Cuz, I want to know if that was cheating or somethin because then I wouldn't feel right about that.

I use paint.net in conjunction with the program I made to translate these images. You used a valid method. I never restricted what you could and couldn't use.
