Valve Announces Portal 3

Post by ElectroYoshi »

Yep. It took three years of nonstop demand, but it's finally happening. Valve has announced their latest title, which will be the Portal 3 we've all been wanting.

Personally, I'm genuinely intrigued by what they're doing with the story this time around. In a nutshell, Portal 3 will be set about a century after the events of Portal 2, and will feature a cast consisting almost entirely of new characters (with GLADoS possibly returning; Knock on wood!), and a completely different facility as the main setting.

Here's the official announcement.

Actually, the logo appeared like that on purpose. I got it from a Minecraft forum, so I purposely linked it wrong so that if you clicked "Open image in new tab", you wouldn't see the URL for it.

I'm simply too jaded to fall for this kind of stuff anymore. It's kind of sad I've become such a cynic.

According to the final hours of portal 2, Valve is working on a new game with a completely new puzzle mechanics. They codenamed it FSTOP, or something I think. No other details were given.

In photography, the term 'f-stop' refers to the size of the aperture. The larger the f-stop is (f/1, f/2, f/4 etc...) the smaller the 'hole' through which light can pass, essentially regulating how bright the resulting image is, so larger f-stops would result in a darker image. The reason for this is that the number next to the f refers to the diameter of the aperture - think of the aperture as a ring around the 'hole' in the camera; the larger the number, the thicker the ring. However, a lower f-stop will also result in a lower depth of field (how much of the image is in focus).

I doubt that this will shed much light (hah) on the topic though. It's probably a code name chosen for its relevance to the word aperture, but I thought it was worth saying.
