I never said that I would, my point was rather that we will need to look at each case independently. Referring to the rules where applicable. It is impossible to chart every insult, from every joke and have a reasonable, cohesive rule set between them. I was saying that a positive attitude is just a good habit in most cases.
I think, while for someone like me would could easily get pedantic and start charting every occurrence with a mode of action, for any normal person it is better to evaluate each instance and choose a logical solution. So, you are right - siding with those who are upset is not the fix all answer, because a fix all answer doesn't exist

Then again, maybe User #1 should be more careful about what he says?
Here's an idea, maybe there's only one rule: "You'll have to answer to the mods for your actions." And then a separate list of general guidelines for the mods (e.g. users should be polite, no porn etc... basically the rules we have now). Like people were saying, this isn't a huge forum, and the mods are reasonable people. I think this would give people much less reason to argue with the specific wording of the rules, and keep the spirit of the rules as simply "keeping the order."

I am not sure what you mean by "answer to the mods" exactly. In general, if any thing happens, a post gets deleted, a thread gets locked, ect.. You don't need to change the topic of the thread or create an entirely new thread, just send me a conversation saying, "So and so happened, what's up, why did you do that?" and I will be pretty quick to get back to you. Given adequate reasoning, I am always willing to make changes. So, while in extreme cases, users will likely be cited the specific rules, I don't really it is as necessary for common little things.
So, as the rules state at the end "Users are expected to follow the spirit, not the letter, of these rules." which I think is a pretty good summery of my feelings on this (Even if I wasn't the one to write that bit, oh hehehe)
