THE much-anticipated release of Half-Life 3 has been confirmed as EA Interactive scoops up the rights to the franchise. EA's $200 million purchase of the game comes amid speculation that Valve, the original developer, had lost interest in taking it to market.
"We just didn't see Valve's vision of a gritty, post-apocalyptic action game with a heavy focus on narrative and character development succeeding in today's market," said Valve founder Gabe Newell.
"EA's offer just made sense.
"They should be able to better translate what we've made into something relevant to today's gaming market.
Wes Matilda, spokesperson for EA's mobile gaming division, welcomed the IP to EA's stable.
