What If Computers Were Made Of Gears?

But gears are based on rotation and friction. Way more moving parts, which are liable to grind away eventually. Also way more likely to break. With moving gears, any bump or shift in angle could misaligne something. Also it would be way bigger, unless someone made "nano gears" and even then it would be difficult. The advantage of micro chips is that they are small. Before that computers were the size of gym halls.

Not to mention all the oiling a person would have to do.

Haha, I cannot believe I hadn't even thought of that! Sort of the simplest and likely first thing to fail and need attention..
