One Step Closer To Robot Bodies

Post by ThatOneFox »

"Beneath the skin of a simple worm with transparent skin, there are 302 neurons that have been mapped meticulously by researchers in what is known as a connectome. This tiny, one millimeter-long worm has been studied in laboratories around the world, and now it's nervous system has been transplanted into the body of a Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot."

We are one step closer to the future everyone. Note that the real worm isn't in the robot, it is just a simulation. The question is, is this lego mindstorm robot now sentient?

I have a feeling that in 50 years from now this exact same article will be republished with the headline "How a Worm Contributed to the Enslaving of the Human Race"
Don't you just hate when someone cuts you off in the middle of a sente

Only a few more centuries before GLaDOS becomes reality. Better prepare for testing.

Wait so there's a worm brain inside the lego mindstorms robot? Is that what it said?

How is the brain being fed? Shouldn't it just die?

No, they recreated the worm's brain in code and then put the code in the robot.

All hail our great worm overlords, given mechanical form.
May they rule gently over fleshy man, and let us not step on the legos from which they are made.

But I thought they said they didn't program the robot how to work...?

I feel like I'm missing something xD

They didn't program him to deal with specific tasks, they just emulated the worm's brain and then said "do this"

But you can't just "emulate a brain", you have to write every line of code that makes it function...

They coded the brain into the robot, and now it acts independently without any external command. If the food sensor is activated, it moves toward the "food" source etc.
