Onemoreblock Is Being Really Slow (update: We're Back!)

Post by Wowfunhappy »

I mean, if you're reading this, you probably already noticed, so having a thread about it is kind of pointless. But I just wanted everyone to know I'm aware of the problem.

If by some chance the website ISN'T being slow for you, please post in the thread letting me know. But it seems to be pretty universal.

Yes, it has been quite unresponsive of late.
I've been around since 2008. And I'm old. Yay. Pretty sure I notched a fair amount of LOTD/XPs but somehow always like my underrated levels more. Go figure. My best design days are behind me, but I'll try to not be too shabby.

For me, it's kind of hit-or-miss as far as whether I have this issue or not. It ran pretty smoothly for me yesterday, but really hasn't been today.
I need a shot again, that sweet adrenaline.

Net neutrality and all that?

Nah, I am wondering if perhaps it is an issue with the hosting service. I am not sure who OMB goes through but perhaps that :/

It's been slow for me as well...
Anyone know where the servers are situated?
If it's broken, fix it.
If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

I think I spoke too soon on the whole "hit-or-miss" thing. This thread took like a minute to load (Hey, is that a snail that just went past here??? O_O)

We use 1and1. From what I can tell, the issue is related to mysql. We don't have a dedicated server and I can't find anything wrong on our end, so I think someone else on the server is hogging resources.

I just got off the phone with 1and1 and suffice to say I am extremely frustrated.

Just to give you a small, particularly ridiculous snippet of the conversation:

1and1 said that the first thing I should do is to check the traffic statistics of the control panel to see if the site was receiving a spike in usage. I explained to them that I didn't have access to the traffic stats because they require an additional subscription, and asked the support person if he could look it up himself. The support person refused, and suggested that I pay extra for the traffic stats so that we could move forward in solving the problem. I of course said that this was ridiculous, especially since Xenforo itself is showing no increase in traffic.

Suffice to say, we're probably going to need to move to a different host.

Will that mean moving all existing posts or a fresh start? I mean, I am not sure if forum host and forum technology are one in and of the same. I am not opposed to switching hosts, whatever that entails. Especially since if need be we can always back up existing posts.

If it's the new host and stuff. The website engine should be kunena(i think it has post/topic import stuff).
For host, you decide.

Posts Merged:
Use kunena as website engine(my game's forum used it and also could be having an import/export thread stuff)
Forgive me for my mistakes. I was a kiddie. But I'm not now.

We're not changing engine, just host. If we change host then all that will change will be the speed of the website.

After three days of not even being able to get it to load, it's like loading at warp speed now haha.
