Maximum Signature Size

Post by Wowfunhappy »

So, as you may have noticed, a lot of the larger signatures have been cut off. I implemented a change which sets a maximum signature size, in an effort to make the forum look cleaner and signatures less distracting.

The current limit is 50 pixels. On one hand, this is a very small limit, and has cut off a lot of signatures. On the other hand, it makes the forums look a LOT cleaner...

Can't decide what the maximum size should be. Thoughts?

What's with the IP button?

Also 175 for now until we can find something better

I think the limit should be between 75-100 pixels. Makes more sense. And I, too, don't like excessively long signatures. The extra scrolling is a big inconvenience.

I'm leaving it at 50 while we decide, so people can see what 50 looks like and use that as a base.

I just test logged in as a user and can't see an IP button. If you can see one, I badly screwed up permissions, so send me a PM so we can figure it out!

I think there should be a scroll bar in our signatures. It's weird seeing my signature and GIF animations in a half.

The IP button is gone now, but it was there for about half an hour.

Also I believe on Voxelus the limit was somewhere from 125-175. I vote 125

I think users should decide how big of a signature they want to see, so everyone can browse the fourms in accordance with their preferences.

I agree that 50 is too small I think in the range of 75-125 would be best! ^_^

That would make sense, but none of us have the technical knowhow to set something like that up.

The scrollbar would look strange to. :P

The idea is, once we decide on a size, people would update their signatures to fit within the minimum, so nothing is cut off. No one would be REQUIRED to update their signature, but it would be in their best interest for obvious reasons.

Perhaps a function to disable viewing signatures. I am unsure if the forum interface permits an option like that, but it would be nice for those who wish to have an even cleaner forum image. Signatures are an excellent form of expression. Unfortunately at times though they can distract from the actual post (As we have seen occur in a few posts with the animated gif images.) and extends loading times for slower computers or internet speed.
