Who's been smashing their keyboard again?
If it's broken, fix it.
If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Those accounts are driving me crazy. There are literally hundreds of them that I've banned, and hundreds more that just register and sit there...

Actually, I still have been manually approving accounts-- the strange thing is, I can only approve them after they have verified their email address. The bulk of these accounts, haven't. Even still, I get about 20-30 junk/spam accounts a day that need to be rejected. I am kinda thinking about turning off registration again, at least for a little bit. Perhaps having some sort of post in the OMB section that says "Hey! here is how you get in contact to set up your account!" Because it is kinda ridiculous dealing with this day in and day out.
I don't know though, what do you guys think?

I think it's too easy to register. Just put in an email and password... not even a captcha or anything. I'm sure there's a plugin somewhere to do that?

Wait, I thought it does ask for a captcha-- let me test..

EDIT: No, when you actually go to register it seems to ask for the captcha.. I'm not sure how they are bypassing it--

Why is this even happening?

Who would care enough to make all these spam accounts?

Yeah, I'm going to guess that there is likely a bot which searches for specific forums it can apply to, or perhaps there is a list of Xenforo forums out there which is already knows how to by pass specific spam checks.

I've made a couple changes that hopefully will prevent these from signing up. Fingers crossed.

Ah, you appear to be correct.

Well lets hope that works haha. Has there been any actual spam posted?

Every now and again, if I happen to slip up or be unable to see for sure if an account is a bot or not-- it may. Although, streetlights' I believe, is usually pretty quick at catching them and deleting them when they post.

It always helps to have at least one guy who doesn't have a life outside the internet on the moderation team :D
