They are, although it's not completely without reason. It was a stupid move on Sony's part, but they created their proprietary cards for security reasons. (the PSP was the home of everything homebrew, including much piracy) So in creating these proprietary cards, a certain expense came with it. See, the reason SD cards are relatively less expensive is because there are so many that are created, that there's less demand and they're more easily made and available. By choosing to make their own cards, they created a demand, and a high price since they haven't made that many.
