Super Mario Galaxy did have some lovely tracks, as did Portal! Another games music I quite like was a little indie exploration style game called An Untitled Story. Atmosphir's old Adventure ambiance track was very nice too!

Yeah, Galaxy was good! I was rather partial to Far Cry 3-especially the end credits music. Also, Battlefield 1942; seriously, look up the soundtrack and tell me you don't like it.

Bioshock Infinite had an amazing soundtrack. It's kind of a period piece, but I really liked it. Case in point:

Skyrim had some really good music, particularly the theme. And although I dislike CoD, Modern Warfare 2's soundtrack was composed by Hans freakin' Zimmer. So yeah, basically I like video game music. xD

The Halo Saga (All Soundtracks)
The Legend of Zelda (Console Games Only)
Mass Effect Trilogy (All Games)

Those are my main favorites.
I've been around since 2008. And I'm old. Yay. Pretty sure I notched a fair amount of LOTD/XPs but somehow always like my underrated levels more. Go figure. My best design days are behind me, but I'll try to not be too shabby.

When the Cicadas Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
When the Seagulls Cry/Umineko no Naku Koro ni.
Possibly the best soundtracks in a game I've heard...(do they count as games? They're sound novels...close enough, I guess.)
Higurashi:

Yeah, good timing, I'd been looking for an excuse to ramble about my new favorite game soundtrack.

DKC Tropical Freeze's soundtrack is terrific. It manages to capture both the minimalism of older game soundtracks, but with the same grandness that wasn't possible until modern consoles came to be.

I like Nintendo's soundtracks a lot, particularly the Super Mario Galaxy one.
If it's broken, fix it.
If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

DKC2, Chrono Trigger and Mario Galaxy. The NES Ducktales also was amazing, and only got better with Ducktales Remastered. I mean, this is just eargasm material.

S3&K had the best retro jams. Nothing else compares.
In terms of Nintendo systems I think the Banjo Kazooie games had some very memorable tunes. Grant Kirkhope has a very recognizable way of making music.
MOTHER 3 is another soundtrack that is exceptionally good and somehow managed to break the limits of the GBA's less than stellar sound capability.
In terms of lesser known games, I found Monaco's classical piano soundtrack to be very well done and dynamic. It was a pretty good game, too. Even more obscure would be Revenge of the Titans, which has a very cool soundtrack of remixed classical music in the form of some kind of techno rock. Examples:

Also, Snake Eater (do do do dooo).

@Plisken

I thought Monaco's soundtrack was a little on the one-trick-pony side, but then there's the fact that it's so unique and radically different from the composer's previous work that you have to credit him. Austin Wintory did the music for Journey before he did the music for Monaco. That's incredible to me.

The soundtracks for Braid, To The Moon, and Gone Home have been on repeat lately. Gone Home is more atmospheric than anything else, but still good listening.

Dust: An Elysian Tale and World of Goo have also been mentioned, and I can second that.

And even though the gameplay might not be the best, the Sonic games always seem to have the best soundtracks.

Street Fighter IV's soundtrack is pretty classy as well, and gets me pumped for another day each morning. ;-)
