With the idea that computers should be easier and quicker to use, I've begun working on a program that will allow you to do almost everything from one place.
So far you can play music, movies, open up documents, and search multiple websites from one place, launching your favourite installed programs for viewing or editing each bit of content.
This program works best pinned to the taskbar, or assigned to a shortcut key combination.

Download the alpha client here, and be sure to give feedback.
Works on Windows computer with .net 2.0, and Linux computers with the mono runtime.

The program uses I/O enumeration to get a file list while you type. Some viruses can use that to intentionally corrupt files.
When you type "play", or "open" wait a few moments and start typing again. Now when you press enter the program will close and launch the song or file.
Edit:
I've updated the link and the app. It should give you results without any workarounds now.
