Lack of New Levels

Post by Echo182 »

Hey guys, I've noticed recently that there are not that many new levels being made. Therefore, I really believe that we need to somehow make the community grow so that there are more levels. I also play on a Mac and not once have I seen a multiplayer session going on. This makes me feel bad that the community is so dead. We really need to, in a way, advertise, and make the game grow again.

I've also noticed that there are no new XP levels recently. Is there someone in charge of giving levels XP, or are all of these XP levels old levels that already earned XP.

Please reply with your thoughts on the situation.

I would upload more levels, but I've been kinda occupied with exams lately.
I'll be uploading something in the near future, but good levels take some time to design.

I'm agreeing with you on growing the community, but there's a (imho big) chance that with more members more crappy levels will be uploaded.

Take the current situation. There are people uploading levels that are not even on the forums. If we can get them to participate here, the quality of levels could rise again.

Also, the filter for XP levels needs to work again. If I see good levels on the front page, I'm more inclined to play them, and it may boost my designing skills as well. If I see the clusterfuck that rules the play browser nowadays, I'm thinking "well this sucks, where are those nice screenshots from?".

It works fine for me. The only problem for me has ever been it not automatically loading the filter; if you just click the search button with the filter selected, it loads.

I need to try that out then... still, is there a possibility for it to be active from the start?

It's buggy/iffy; sometimes it'll auto-load, sometimes not. Don't know if it's fixable, that'd be a question for those involved in dev.

Eh, I do agree we need new levels, but making levels also takes a lot of work. If we were to get the best builders and teach the "i put fifteen blocks here im done" people how to make levels properly, sure we would get more levels but the wait between levels will be pretty long.

Yeah it's really weird... It's supposed to automatically load the XP levels filter but it just doesn't after a while on some computers. On my personal installation of Atmosphir it always loads XP levels first, but on my brother's it loads All Leves. It's a really weird issue that I need to look into further, not quite sure what causes it.

This is entirely speculation, and I have nothing to back it up... but I wonder if the bizarre behaviour of the main page is caused by the original server providing some kind of document that essentially specified, "Display newest levels, but especially highlight levels made by the players friends, or that feature the latest design contest tag, or that the player has lost, or that have had a lot of new plays recently." This is kind of a long shot to guess, but their is definite incentive on the developers part to filter the main page to keep players playing more and discovering more levels that they'd want to play. But if that is the case, then it could kinda make sense that because the client isn't receiving that info, it just displays all the levels in a quasi-random manner. . . I don't know, I'm not a programmer at all but just kind of a speculation~!

PLEASE DON'T BITE THE NEWBIES!
I know they are terrible levels but it isn't something to insult them over (although I am a bit of a biter myself). If we COMPLEMENT the cookie-cutters for trying and make CONSTRUCTIVE criticism instead of saying they are poor excuses, we may be able to get them somewhere!

I'd infer that the bugs with the main page are a big part of it. That, for me, has made playing new levels more trouble than it's worth.

It's not like that's the only factor though. For me personally, I just don't really have any ideas right now. Compound that with the fact that I'm currently getting everything squared away before I start college, and... Yeahhh...

I think we stopped biting anyway. Seen some nice comments from us on newbie levels. You know, encouraging stuff. Nice!

If you have a look at the level browser now, you'll see that there are a lot more XP levels. This is due to the Editorial staff members coming back online, but also because the userbase is beginning to take on brand new designers who are coming out with new XP worthy levels.
