Nah, the Xbox One simply tried using both Apple and Steams game purchasing scheme, which nobody likes apparently (yet both are successful).StreetLights wrote:The Xbone really was about bleeding people dry...
Think about it. With an apple device, anything you purchase simply gives you rights to play, and its all under one account. If you forget your password, you're permanantly losing all your purchased apps once you reset your password (My cousin in law can tell you the whole story). But provided that never happens, you can re-download your purchased apps on any apple device you log into.
In steams case, all your games are under one account, and are accessible on any computer. You don't truly own your games on steam either however. You simply have a single account that gives you access to your purchased games. It turns out its a great model for PC gamers, but not console gamers.

Had Microsoft kept its original policies, both physical and digital purchases would be bound to one account. With that one account, you could access your content any persons console as long as you're logged in (like steam purchases). As well, if you forgot a game while going to a friends, it would be no problem as that game would be attached with your account. There was also going to be a family pack where you could have your game purchases shared across 10 Xbox accounts.ElectroYoshi wrote:Was the Xbox One going to force people to buy games digitally instead of physically? People compare it to Steam a lot, so is that what they mean?
The only part I disliked in Microsofts original plan was the 24/7 online policy.
There's been rumors spreading about the PS4's DRM though. Some people are saying that disc sharing is only guaranteed for first party games (there's not enough fact to know for sure).
