So, I'm a newcomer to linux. What should I do to get started with it?

1.) Uninstall it
2.) Get an actual OS
3.) Mac OS X doesn't count so stop right there before you install that.
4.) Windows

I'm just testing out Linux for development purposes.

If you have the server version of Ubuntu, you can use it for LAMP.
But if you have the desktop version, there's terminal and this app.

I have the desktop version, but I'm curious. What is LAMP?

Wow, I'm absolutely loving Ubuntu. Turns out I can run all of my .net applications on Linux too!

Linux and Mac OSX are both based on Unix. The Ubuntu version of Linux seems to have a crossed windows and mac osx feel.

I don't like Linux OS nor do I care to learn it. I'm sticking with Windows because it's the best not only for entertainment but also for gaming :)

That is what I found, it looks quite good. I might try it at one point but I would rather stay with my Windows 7 and OS X for as long as I can because it can be a hassle changing them.

I am glad you are enjoying it! :D

The OS on the computer for the soundboard at my church is Linux and I cannot stand it! It's too developer-like and I don't like it. lol

I love how everyone is so opinionated on their favorite OS, and are insistent that no other OS could even be slightly good. I actually think all three have their upsides. My favorite is Windows though, just because I'm used to it.

I must agree, I love a good Windows 7 and it's great having it on my PC, I do prefer OS X though because it I think is put together lots batter and runs better.

The unfortunate thing with Linux, is that there's too many versions of it to choose from. Some are good, some are "less good".

For the record, my favorite version of Linux by far is elementry os. They put a lot of thought into how it's designed.

Duh, Linux is a pretty good OS, I mean, it's free.
The sad thing about Linux is that not every program support it.

I love Linux! Although I don't like Ubuntu's new window manager. I enjoy Linux Mint more.

You guys really make me want to try it but my overwhelming laziness prevents that.

I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 on my windows 8 PC. it automatically installed it as a second OS. so when i boot up, it asks which OS i want to boot up to. it has a default, so after 5 seconds it will automatically boot to the default (you can choose which one is default)
