[project 6% Done] Building A Halo Mk Vi Suit Costume

Post by Baufritz »

++++++++NEWS-TICKER++++++++ Building left shoe. Rebuilding forearms, thighs, cod piece and handplates due to me finding higher resolution files and some a''hole sitting on my parts. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ STEPS TO SUCCESS:
  1. Modeling the Suit out of Paper
    STATUS: 33% done
  2. Strengthening the individual parts
    STATUS: 0% done
  3. Connecting the pieces to form a full suit
    STATUS: 0% done
I've thought about making this sort of costume multiple times now, but now I finally decided to give it a shot. This is my first try on making something at this kind of scale, so watch me struggle as I try to complete this costume in time for this year's Gamescom.

Pictures for your enjoyment:
Spoiler
First try at the helmet. May do a second one later if I can't fix the slightly warped zones.

Plating for the back of the hand done.

I'll update this post when I progress further.
If it's broken, fix it.
If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

So do you have to scale all of the patterns to your measurements or how does that work?

Yes, I have all the parts as digital files on my PC, and scale them accordingly to my body height.
Then I print them out, cut the parts, fold them together, and strengthen them with resin or foam (haven't worked that out yet)

Updated/Structured the first post.

Man, that's quite cool! Looks like a lot of work.. I'd test the resin on a scrap piece first before attempting it on any of the actual models!

You should test this in rain. :O

Also, you should make a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter for the charity!

I'll do that, if I use resin. With the foam, I'm pretty certain it'll hold up, I just don't know how much better/worse it is with resin in terms of workflow, messy-ness etc.

I'll test it after Gamescom, alright ;)
I don't know about the Kickstarter thing, the suit is a project I do in my free time as a hobby, so I don't think I'll put something up there... I'll think about it :P

the force is strong with this one...

I've finished modeling the left forearm, starting with the right one now. I won't progress very fast, because school work is really cutting into my building time (again).

UPDATE: Due to some a''hole sitting on my parts I have to rebuild both forearms, thighs and handplates.

Also, I'm now going for the higher resolution parts since I feel pretty confident now.
