I think that is sort of the current consensus, although more specific boards would be nice - I think the ones we have a likely enough

The McleodGaming Forum is a pretty board-heavy forum, and I think most of their boards are pretty solid. We could take ideas for boards from that website and implement them here. (Please note that I was not paid to say that.)

My point was that you seem to be wanting more specific boards. But there's a reason the ones we already have are generalized. For example, your "Other media" and "Political Board" ideas wouldn't be that practical because people already post about such things in off-topic. That's what it's there for. In that same respect, the Ideas board you came up with wouldn't make sense either because people already post their ideas in the One More Block section. What I'm saying here is that the ideas you have for new boards would be echoing things people already post about in other sections. For this reason, it's not really worth the trouble to get more specific.

What's wrong with being more specific? I'm suggesting more, specific boards so that threads get more of the attention that they deserve, instead of getting mixed on with other threads. The basic motive behind organizing things is to make them easier to find.

Because threads tend to change topics on OMB, so if someone started a political thread in Off-Topic, but it started to turn into a thread about burritos, it would be okay because both threads belong in Off-Topic. But if someone started a thread in "Politics" and it turned into a burrito thread, then Wowfunhappy would get mad and turn into a meanie and lock/move that thread.

BTW, who likes burritos?

Getting more specific would actually make things harder to find, honestly.

Think about this for a second. If there's more boards, you have to look through more boards to figure out where to post/find a thread. It would be a real pain to look through boards specifically labeled "Politics" or "Music" or "Gaming" or "Ideas" or whatever the heck else. That's tedious, clunky, and highly unintuitive. The group of people who wouldn't mind doing that isn't very big.

I reiterate: This is why we generalize.
