I've been around since 2008. And I'm old. Yay. Pretty sure I notched a fair amount of LOTD/XPs but somehow always like my underrated levels more. Go figure. My best design days are behind me, but I'll try to not be too shabby.
I'd say, it depends on your budget. If your looking at buying something nice and cheep for say 95 - 120 dollars, the hipstreet titan, or hipstreet aurora are decent for the price. If you looking for something more top line, the nexus 7. I think google has a nexus device going for 119.99 right now (used to be 199.99), which is probably a good steal.
I'd say probably the Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 depending on what screen size you prefer. If you're in to taking note (with a pen) on your tablet, then I suggest a Galaxy Note 10.1.
I personally would never get anything non-Nexus, as Android skins at this point in time are a complete turn-off to me, but then again that's merely my opinion.
Well most Android skins nowadays are terrible, awful, slow, and super intrusive anyways. Stock Android, in my opinion, is always the way to go. If you asked me a few years ago I would have said HTC Sense is better, but at this point Android does NOT need a skin AT ALL.
